چکیده
The energy versus time of arrival pattem of neutrinos from SN1987A is sensitive to a neutrino mass, m~, of order a few eV. To disentangle constraints on m~ from the data, a theory of supernova emission is necessary. We recall the present status of this theory and approximate its predictions in two diffusion models: one designed to reflect the present supernova lore, the other devised to pessimize, within reason, the consequent upper limits on m,. We discuss the model dependence and statistical significance of our results, as well as the experimental uncertainties and caveats to which they are subject. We address the question, do the supernova results supercede the present laboratory limits on m~?

Decoupling supernova and neutrino oscillation physics with LAr TPC detectors
Core collapse supernovae are a huge source of all flavor neutrinos. The flavor composition, energy spectrum and time structure of the neutrino burst from a galactic supernova can provide information about the explosion mechanism and the mechanisms of proto neutron star cooling. Such data can also give information about the intrinsic properties of the neutrino such as flavor oscillations. One im...
متن کاملSupernova neutrino fluxes from the LSD neutrino signal from SN1987A
Detection of 5 events by the Liquid Scintillation Detector (LSD) on February, 23, 1987 was recently interpreted as a detection of the electron neutrino flux from the first stage of the two-stage Supernova collapse [1][2]. We show that, if neutrino mass hierarchy is normal, such interpretation excludes values of neutrino mixing angle θ13 larger than 3 · 10 , independently of the particular Super...
متن کاملAstrophysical Implications of Neutrino Mass and Mixings
Astrophysical implications of neutrino mass and mixings are discussed. The status of solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, and recent developments concerning nuclear physics input to solar models and solar opacities are reviewed. Implications of neutrino mass and mixings in supernova dynamics are explored. The effects of supernova density fluctuations in neutrino propagation is described.
متن کاملWeak-interaction processes during stellar collapse
Massive stars end their lifes as type II supernovae, triggered by a collapse of their central iron core with a mass of more than 1M . The general picture of a core-collapse supernova is probably well understood and has been confirmed by various observations from supernova 1987A. Nevertheless, the most sophisticated supernova simulations [1, 2, 3] currently fail to explode indicating that improv...
متن کاملNew Equations of State in Simulations of Core-collapse Supernovae
We discuss three new equations of state (EOS) in core-collapse supernova simulations. The new EOS are based on the nuclear statistical equilibrium model of Hempel and Schaffner-Bielich (HS), which includes excluded volume effects and relativistic mean-field (RMF) interactions. We consider the RMF parameterizations TM1, TMA, and FSUgold. These EOS are implemented into our spherically symmetric c...
